Louise was one of my grandmothers. My mom’s mother. I don’t remember Grandma Louise, she died when I was a very little girl. Grandma Louise was a quilter, it must be ‘hereditary’. My mom has some of her mom’s beautiful quilts.
Grandma Louise and Grandpa Earl lived on a farm not far from where I was raised and where I live now. Grandma loved her gardens, both flowers and vegetables. I have Grandma Louise’s journal with daily entries of her activities; gardening, canning the produce from the garden and her quilting. I enjoy reading about her life, it helps me to stay connected to my family. I should do some journaling for my grandbabies.
I have been wanting to provide additional inspiration to our Quilted Moose followers for some time. It’s been fun narrowing down all the possible ideas for this project. You know how I love to ‘Moose It Up’ and smaller is almost always better. So, I’ve decided on 4-1/2″ finished blocks. I know, I know…. that is small. But, wait till you see the blocks I have been designing for you. They are so cute.
My family history has been a shop topic recently. One of our customers who is ‘into’ family history, insisted on doing some research into my Mom’s side, as a thank you for some quilting help. Since this Sunday is Mother’s Day I’ve decided to honor the memory of my mom’s mother. This block sew along is called ‘From Louise’s Garden’ with a sprinkle of Quilted Moose thrown in for good measure.
I made a commitment this past Monday night, I said it out loud, too! “Every Friday by 4 pm I will post a block for ‘From Louise’s Garden’ sew along. Here’s how the sew along is going to work. Every Friday after 4 pm CST a new block will be posted on our Quilted Moose blog. The post will have cutting instructions for each block, as well as a photo of the block. You will need to reference the photo for the assembly of the block. You should be able to easily piece your block from the photo. The sew along will continue for 12 weeks. You will also receive setting instructions for the small finished quilt top as we get closer to the end of the sew along.
The Quilted Moose will also have available a ‘starter’ kit of the fabrics I am using for the blocks. Either stop in at the Quilted Moose or give us a call to order the ‘starter’ kit.
I am so excited to start this sew along. So, without further ado………..’From Louise’s Garden” Sew Along – Block #1. Enjoy!
