Bakers Dozen BOM blocks for months 3, 4 and 5 are available.
Bakers Dozen Month 3 blocks are the Aircastle Star blocks. The directions for these 4-6″ blocks start on the second column of Page 9.
Bakers Dozen Month 4 blocks are the center medallion 8 Pointed Star 11″ blocks. You will be making 4-11″ 8 Pointed Star Blocks. The directions for these blocks start on Page 3.
We have had several questions concerning how to sew the 8 Pointed Star Block 11″ (BOM #4) so when the units are stitched together the block lays flat. When piecing this block you will be dealing with numerous bias edges. We recommend that you place the fabric piece with the bias edge right sides together with the bias edged piece on top. With the bias edged piece on top you avoid the feed dogs pulling and stretching, this happens more if it’s on the bottom facing up.
Combination Star, page 11 are the 4-6″ blocks for Month 5. We suggest you cut your outer connecting corner (B) squares at 2″ before cutting them on the diagonal. This will give you some extra room for squaring this unit to 2-1/2″.
We hope you are enjoying your Bakers Dozen quilt journey. Karyl is doing a wonderful job piecing this block of the month for us and we think her tips are very helpful.
