Dear Moose Friends,
My husband and I were guests Sunday evening at a four course wine tasting dinner at our friend’s farm in rural Nebraska. The owner of the I Selvatici vineyard/winery and his chef traveled from Italy to the states last November. They have given over 30 wine tasting dinners the past 5 months promoting their Tuscany region wines and food. The whole evening was fabulous! One of their reserve red wines is even featured at the Ritz Carltons. We were invited to arrive early and could help with the food preparation. I was involved in rolling the pasta dough through the pasta machine over and over, 6 times actually, to achieve the correct thinness. That pasta was then sliced, boiled and then stuffed for the potato and mushroom cannollis. It was quite interesting working with the chef and trying to understand what he wanted us to do, with the translation barrier. But, it was a fun evening and I’m ready to do it again, next year.
My staff and I are busy participating in various sew alongs. Are you participating in the BLOOM Sew Along sponsored by Lori Holt, blogger of Bee In My Bonnet blog posts? The BLOOM pattern is available for free at this link: http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com. You do need to purchase the Sew Simple Shapes templates for the actual size of the block pieces. The templates are adorable and make tracing your shapes so easy. We have restocked them in the shop for the 3rd time. Lori blogs each week about the newest block for the Sew Along with specific layout details for each block. Lori’s machine appliqué method uses pellon as an interfacing on the each appliqué piece that she then turns before stitching the piece down on her block background. Suzanne is participating in the BLOOM Sew Along and is using her own invisible machine appliqué method, Suzanne also teaches this method at the Quilted Moose. Carolyn is using fusible raw edge appliqué with Soft Fuse and I am stitching with my tried and true needleturn hand appliqué.
If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook you will notice that we are using fabric precuts for our BLOOM Sew Along blocks. Those fabrics will soon be available in yardage at the Quilted Moose. Stop in at the Quilted Moose to see the newest MODA fabric lines arriving this spring from Sweetwater, Jen Kingwell, Bunny Hill Designs, Minick & Simpson and other designers..
