Dear Moose Friends,
With a sad heart I want to reach out to all of you, sharing that we have lost a dear member of our Quilted Moose family. Suzanne Earnest lost her fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Suzanne came to the Moose in October 2005, bringing with her an always sunny disposition and inspiring creativity. She happily shared her skills with anyone who asked, creating a loyal group of fans here at the Moose and out in our quilting community. Many of you have sought her help selecting fabric for a project or have taken her class on invisible machine appliqué. We estimate she taught well over a thousand quilters here at the Moose and at local quilt guilds and small groups. Some of her students were not quite sure appliqué was going to be their thing, but after taking her class they no longer considered it the A word!
As I’ve been gathering quilt photos to share with you, I’ve also enjoyed the chance to revisit some of the lovely samples she made for the shop. Suzanne was always the first to volunteer to stitch a new block of the month sample or any appliqué piece, for that matter. The Wednesdays and Thursdays she worked were some of our most creative. We would pull fabrics for the next month’s block, or a new appliqué sample or redesign a part of a pattern to “Moose It Up”. One of Suzanne’s last finishes was the Lily Rosenberry quilt, a quilt pattern designed by the late Sue Garman. If I remember correctly, Suzanne said there were over 1,400 berries on this quilt…amazing work!
We are all so very sad to say goodbye, but grateful to have known, learned from and shared Suzanne’s passion.
Suzanne’s family will be together, but no services are being held. If you would like to send a note of condolence, they can be sent to

Knowing that many of our Quilted Moose family would like to get together and visit about our Suzanne, we have scheduled a “Celebration of Suzanne and her quilting life” gathering. We will be getting together at our Minglewood Lodge on Monday, January 13, 2020 starting at 4:00pm. Bring a munchie to share and we will visit and raise a glass to our dear friend. If you have a quilt that Suzanne has influenced or helped you to create, please bring it to share.
