It’s Getting Cold! But Wool Will Keep You Warm…

Hello Friends!

It’s been too long since we chatted! The leaves are almost gone and the cold winds are bringing early thoughts of a long winter… time to bring out the sweaters, scarves, jackets… and your wool! Wool Appliqué was one of the first textile arts that I dipped my toes into years ago. Something about it reminds me of my extended family, Christmases at Grandma’s house, the holidays and all things good! It can absolutely be done throughout the year, but something about cooler temperatures always makes me want to pull out my wool basket and get sewing again…

So in the spirit of the cooler weather and the upcoming holidays Debbie has added a new class to the class schedule here at the Moose… Introduction to Wool Appliqué and guess who’s teaching it?? ME!! Woo hoo! I’m so excited! Deb and I sat down and pulled together some new wool pieces and I designed a quick little project that you can keep for yourself for holiday decorating or it will make a cute gift to give someone else!

One of the best parts about wool appliqué is that you don’t need a lot of tools to create your piece. In fact, nearly everything you need to complete the class project will be included in the class kit! The class itself will cost $30.00 for a 3 hour session and you can purchase the kit for the wool mat from us before class begins or on the morning of the class itself!

It turned out pretty cute didn’t it? Come on in for visit or give us a call at 402-332-4178 during regular business hours to save your space in the class… class sizes will be small so space is limited.  We’ll be offering the class on two different days – Saturday December 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:oo p.m. or the same hours on Saturday December 14th. This gives you plenty of time to complete your project for holiday gift giving!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention some of the wonderful new things that have arrived at the store. Here’s a quick peek at a few of them, but you’ll need to come in to see it all!

Zen Chic’s newest line of fabrics is called Breeze and I’m obsessed! The blues are lovely and her new quilt designs are amazing! If you love shirtings, conversation prints or just anything designed by Lisa and Lou of   Max and Louise Quilt Designs, than you are going to want to run (not walk but run) in to see their new line of fabrics… Watts River… it’s adorable and a must have if you love low volume prints for your quilts. The last little peek will be of two of my favorite new books (both by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings) the first is Wool, Needle & Thread, The Go To Guide For Wool Stitchery (see… told you… wool is all the rage!). It is the absolute best book we’ve seen on beginning wool appliqué and we’ll be using many of Lisa’s techniques in the Intro to Wool Appliqué class. If you take the class, this book is definitely for you!

The second of Lisa’s books that I’m obsessed with is her Farmhouse Gatherings book.  The book features many of Lisa’s new grey fabrics, fabrics from the Farmhouse Gatherings line and the quilts and home decor items in it are fantastic!

Ok… that’s enough… if you want to see more you’re just going to need to come in and visit us at the Moose! Can’t wait to see you!

Until next time friends! Be kind, sew your heart out and stay warm!
